Daman-Diu has faced a major set back in educational development as compared to other regions of the country. The status of primary and secondary education had been worsening due to lack of teachers in schools since the past few years. However, various plans and projects have been introduced in the union territory (UT) to make the universalisation of education fruitful in the region.
The UT has been provided with funds for the up gradation of infrastructure and other requisites. Consciousnesses among the citizens regarding the importance of education have been brought by the help of various NGOs working in the region. The literacy rate of the UT according to 2001 census was 81% which shows the rapid development of education in the past few years. The government is slowly stepping forth to make a prosperous and educated Daman and Diu in the near future.
